President Bush has coined the phrase a new world order. It is being used to describe the abrupt changes taking place internationally brought about, in part, by perestroika in the Soviet Union and the new alliances being formed in Western Europe. The President is hoping that such global changes will precipitate a political stability that will enable worldwide peace to be realized in our time.
Christian friend, knowing the eternal horrors that await the unsaved and the eternal bliss that can be theirs by believing in Christ as Savior, we should be doing all we can to proclaim the gospel to our neighbors and friends so that they can have a part in the new world order with us.

If one wanted to eat kosher (or halal) meat in the world today there is no lack of animals that would be permissible. According the UN Food and Agriculture organization, in 2012 there were about 20 billion domestic fowl (primarily chicken, but also turkeys, geese and ducks), 1.7 billion heads of cattle and buffalo, and 2.1 billion heads of sheep and goats (FAO 2013). It is estimated than 90 % of the mammalian biomass on Earth is made up of humans and their domestic animals, primarily cattle; this value has grown several orders of magnitude since the domestication of these animals about 10,000 years ago (Barnosky 2008; Vince 2011; Xiang et al. 2014). Would the same abundance have been available in the ancient past?
The ecological importance of angiosperms rapidly increased during the Cenozoic. A 55 million year old tropical forest contains abundant legumes, seeds, and fruits (Wing et al. 2009). The asterids (lettuce, sunflowers, olives, carrots, potatoes, eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, tobacco, sweet potatoes), which appeared in the Cretaceous, also become widely available during the Early Cenozoic (Manchester et al. 2015), as did nuts. Grasses, which includes wheat, maize, and rice, first occur in the Cretaceous, but grasslands do not spread worldwide until the middle and late Cenozoic (Strömberg 2011).

Last year, David Wasserstein, the senior scholar of Islam became the holder of distinguished chair as Professor of Jewish Studies in Vanderbilt. His prior positions included Tel Aviv University. I had know his work as one of the best introductions to the world of the Golden Age in Spain, where he explained the world of poets and their patrons. I also knew him from his work explaining why the center of culture moved from Baghdad to Spain, paralleled by the decline of the Geonim and the ascent of Lucena. See, The Rise and Fall of the Party-Kings, Politics and Society in Islamic Spain, 1002-1086 (Princeton 1985); The Caliphate in the West. An Islamic Political Institution in the Iberian Peninsula (Oxford 1993). In his new position, he was invited to give four lectures on Jews and Islam, which look like the first draft of a book. Unlike the older romantic approach that assumed that all was great under Islam as a golden age, Wasserstein now has to deal with the untrained amateur online historians who create a counter myth that everything was bad. Jews did well not because of liberal leadership but when the muslim community had moments of cultural creativity, Jews were inspired to do the same. His bigger new thesis is that the Talmud would have been unknown to Western Jews as long as the Persians and Byzantium were at war. His opening lecture was published by the Jewish Chronicle.
The change of language in its turn brought the Jews into direct contact with broader cultural developments. The result from the 10th century on was a striking pairing of two cultures. The Jews of the Islamic world developed an entirely new culture, which differed from their culture before Islam in terms of language, cultural forms, influences, and uses. Instead of being concerned primarily with religion, the new Jewish culture of the Islamic world, like that of its neighbours, mixed the religious and the secular to a high degree. The contrast, both with the past and with medieval Christian Europe, was enormous.
This was not coincidence, and nor was it the product of particularly enlightened liberal patronage by Muslim rulers. It was the product of a number of deeper features of these societies, social and cultural, legal and economic, linguistic and political, which together enabled and indeed encouraged the Jews of the Islamic world to create a novel sub-culture within the high civilisation of the time.
The pre-columbian hypothesis. The advocates of this hypothesis claim that not only syphilis was widely spread in both Old and New World, but also the other treponemal diseases. In Europe, most of these conditions were mistaken for leprosy [3]. According to this hypothesis, pinta occurred in Afro-Asian zone by the year 15.000 BC, having an animal reservoir. Yaws appeared as a consequence of the mutations in pinta around 10.000 BC and spread allover the world, except for the American continent which was isolated. The endemic syphilis emerged from jaws by the selection of several treponemas, as a consequence of climate changes (the appearance of the arid climate) around 7000 BC. Around 3000 BC the sexually transmitted syphilis emerged from endemic syphilis in South-Western Asia, due to lower temperatures of the post-glacial era and spread to Europe and the rest of the world. Initially it manifested as a mild disease, eventually aggravated and grew in virulence, suffering from several mutations, at the end of the 15th century [2,3].

There is one fundamental paradigm shift between the way the western world looks at time in contrast with how the Bible and the Jewish culture consider it. It is that the western world sees and measures time in a linear way. It goes from point A to point B.
One of the reasons why I believe that God created time to be cyclical is so that every generation, every nation, every family, and every person can continually come to the conclusion that the world is revolving in a pattern that points to two things.

I'd first like to congratulate outgoing President Guido De Marco of Malta and salute our incoming President Samir Shihabi of Saudi Arabia. I also want to salute especially Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, who will step down in just over 3 months. But let me say, Secretary-General Perez de Cuellar has served with great distinction during a period of unprecedented change and turmoil. For almost 10 years we've enjoyed the leadership of this man of peace, a man that I, along with many of you, feel proud to call friend. So today, let us congratulate our friend and praise his spectacular service to the United Nations and to the people of the world. Mr. Secretary-General.
My speech today will not sound like any you've heard from a President of the United States. I'm not going to dwell on the superpower competition that defined international politics for half a century. Instead, I will discuss the challenges of building peace and prosperity in a world leavened by the cold war's end, the resumption of history.
First, history's renewal enables people to pursue their natural instincts for enterprise. Communism froze that progress until its failures became too much for even its defenders to bear. And now citizens throughout the world have chosen enterprise over envy, personal responsibility over the enticements of the state, prosperity over the poverty of central planning.
The U.N. Charter encourages this adventure by pledging "to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples." And I can think of no better way to fulfill this mission than to promote the free flow of goods and ideas. Frankly, ideas and goods will travel around the globe with or without our help. The information revolution has destroyed the weapons of enforced isolation and ignorance. In many parts of the world technology has overwhelmed tyranny, proving that the age of information can become the age of liberation if we limit state power wisely and free our people to make the best use of new ideas, inventions, and insights.
By the same token, the world has learned that free markets provide levels of prosperity, growth, and happiness that centrally planned economies can never offer. Even the most charitable estimates indicate that in recent years the free world's economies have grown at twice the rate of the former Communist world.
I cannot stress this enough: Economic progress will play a vital role in the new world. It supplies the soil in which democracy grows best. People everywhere seek government of and by the people. And they want to enjoy their inalienable rights to freedom and property and person. 2ff7e9595c
